White carnation
The white carnation has ruffled petals with a toothed edge and a clove scent you catch up close. It lasts as long as the red one and is the one most used in arrangements and church work. It can be dyed through the stem, which is where blue carnations come from.

Orange gerbera
The gerbera (Gerbera jamesonii) comes from South Africa and is the flower of flat, clean colour, with hardly any foliage. Its stem is hollow and bends if the water comes up too high: an inch in the vase is enough. Sold by the stem, it gives a lot for little money.
